Named by CNN and Money Magazine as one of the “100 Best Places to Live in the US” in 2005, more recently it earned a place on Nerdwallet’s list of “Best Places for Young Families” in Indiana. It also ranks in the top 10 safest cities in the state. With so many distinctions, it’s easy to see why Dyer real estate is in demand. Families also appreciate the good public schools in town. Two elementary schools and one of the middle schools are 4 Star Schools.
Considered part of the Chicago metropolitan area, Dyer homes are about 30 miles south of the city. Dyer provides easy access to the city, with an Amtrak station and proximity to I-94. However, the town is very vibrant and maintains a full schedule of events throughout the year. Each summer, the Dyer Summer Fest is held at Pheasant Hills Park. The festival lasts five days and culminates in a grand fireworks display. Kids can take craft and sports classes at the town’s parks. Adults also have exercise classes, including yoga, pilates and zumba. Everyone in town gets together to celebrate holidays. There’s a Halloween parade and candy for everyone. In December, a candy cane hunt is organized, as well as a family-friendly New Year’s noon party.
